Dr. Fern Arden, Our Founder

With personal vision of a facility providing treatment for sexual problems that would ideally combine a well-trained professional staff with a personalized, authentic course of therapy, Dr. Fern Arden founded Abel 2 Counseling Center in 1991.
Dr. Arden wanted to create an environment that was client-centered. Catering to the needs of the people courageous enough to seek our help, it was crucial they feel safe, respected and supported every step of the way.
"I tried to imagine what I would want to experience if I was going to sex therapy", Dr. Arden explained. "I thought about what fears and anxieties a person could have and what we could do to alleviate them. I am satisfied we've accomplished our goals in this regard."

When a client or clients meet with Dr. Arden, they experience a woman of knowledge and insight. The doctor couples this with her witty pronouncements and wise admonishments. Though humor helps with perspective, it is with a guiding hand that she helps individuals and couples find the very best in themselves and their sex lives.
Dr. Fern M. Arden, F.A.A.C.S., D.A.P.A. received her masters degree from Queens College in New York and completed her doctorate in 1996 at the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco, California. She is a Board Certified Clinical Sexologist and a Clinical Fellow of The American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. In 1995, she became a Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology. Followed in 1998, she also became a Diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association.
Dr. Arden has written and produced a well-reviewed instructional video, Sex Therapy: an Intimate Experience. She has lectured widely on subjects ranging from 'Sexuality and Aging', 'Teen Pregnancy', 'Sex Surrogate Therapy', and most recently, 'He Has a Headache: the Modern Sexual Relationship'. Dr. Arden has designed 'sexual aids' to enhance physical pleasure for couples.
The expertise Dr. Arden brought to treating sexual disorders contributed significantly to the outstanding reputation attributed to Abel 2 Counseling. She has been an innovator in the development of the most original cognitive/behavioral treatment procedures and materials presently employed in clinical practice. Her surrogate-partner programs are so effective they are actually copied by other facilities in New York. What cannot be duplicated is the extraordinary staff who implement our programs with responsibility and devotion to their work.
